Do not remember the past events, pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:18-19
I was recently ask to provide a description of life growing up. That’s always an interesting question and it depends who is asking and why as to how I answer. When I do answer, I am apt to recall things of old in a pleasant way or a not so pleasant way based on the circumstances.
I have noticed that in litigation the exact same situations are remembered in completely different ways. Under oath people tell the truth the way they saw it back when whatever caused the lawsuit happened - usually years ago. Then judges have the job of hearing two different perspectives of what are supposed to be facts and making an impossible decision. How can facts be recalled with such opposite memories?
Whether it is a personal conversation or memories recalled under oath, we learn that with time, memories are malleable. Our minds are not reliable in recalling the events of the past with exactness.
Ultimately, why spend time on things of the past - things that we cannot change - as God wants our eyes looking forward at what He is doing. God reminds us this new nature He gives us over and over, desperate for us to forget the past and look to Him as what the future in Him has to offer.
Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new person. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 TPT
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:26-26
My old identity has been co-crucified with Christ and no longer lives. And now the essence of this new life is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives his life through me—we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that he gave himself for me, dispensing his life into mine!
Galatians 2:20 TPT
The history of any man can be quite difficult and can leave scars to the depth of a man’s soul. Every man has such scars although admittedly some are much more difficult to comprehend the impact of such history.
As a man standing in front of God, those scars have no further value as God looks at a man’s souls and judges him accordingly. Yet man, left to his own vices, may struggle all his life with the impact of these scars.
When God touches a man, the man is blessed with a new being - one without the scars. Yet, how does a day look to live in this new person and now ignore the pain of the past?
Who gets to live in such freedom? Everyman that reads these words and lives out the promises contained in these verses.
Anyone that lives with the tail of the past has yet to experience the freedom of Christ.
So how much time do you need to explore the history of your painful past to grasp this freedom? God’s word does not suggest there is value in this history lesson. The value is in looking forward to a new life where the past is forgotten and the future is freedom.
